Our client, a strategic communications consultancy that specialises in corporate communications, financial PR, public affairs, and digital strategy, is looking for an Associate Director to join their corporate communications team with a focus on sustainability and ESG. This is an exciting opportunity to work with businesses at the forefront of responsible growth, helping them craft and communicate their sustainability strategies, manage reputational risks, and engage with key stakeholders.

The firm partners with a wide range of global brands and industry leaders, supporting them in navigating the evolving landscape of corporate responsibility, sustainability regulation, and stakeholder expectations. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of ESG issues, a passion for corporate sustainability, and a strong track record in strategic communications.

Role

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them develop and articulate their sustainability and ESG narratives.
  • Lead the development of sustainability-focused communications strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Monitor and analyse key sustainability trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks to provide proactive advice to clients.
  • Create compelling content across multiple channels, including sustainability reports, thought leadership pieces, speeches, and social media campaigns.
  • Engage with media and key stakeholders, positioning clients as leaders in ESG and responsible business practices.
  • Oversee integrated campaigns, working across corporate communications, public affairs, and digital channels to amplify sustainability messaging.
  • Manage crisis communications and reputational challenges, advising clients on how to navigate scrutiny around ESG commitments and performance.
  • Lead and mentor teams, fostering a high-performance, collaborative environment while ensuring smooth execution of client deliverables.
  • Support business development, identifying opportunities to expand the firm’s sustainability advisory services and contribute to pitch development.
  • Advise on digital strategy, ensuring that sustainability messaging is effectively communicated across digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in corporate communications, sustainability, or ESG advisory, ideally within a consultancy, agency, or corporate environment.
  • Deep understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks, regulatory trends, and investor expectations around ESG.
  • Proven ability to translate complex sustainability issues into clear, impactful messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Strong media relations experience, particularly in sustainability, corporate responsibility, and business press.
  • Track record of leading and delivering integrated communications campaigns with a focus on sustainability themes.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to craft thought leadership content and strategic communications materials.
  • Experience advising senior stakeholders, providing counsel on sustainability communications and reputation management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams, ensuring high-quality execution and client satisfaction.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset with a passion for sustainability and responsible business.
  • Experience working with B2B and B2C brands across multiple sectors, particularly those undergoing sustainability transformations.
